Todd Eckert: Founder of Tin Drum
In this episode, I’m chatting with Todd Eckert, the founder of Tin Drum, the company that makes performance-based content for wearable augmented-reality/mixed-reality headset devices. We discuss Todd’s background as a music journalist, starting when he was 12. He later moved into the film industry and produced the award-winning film “Control,” about Ian Curtis, the lead singer of the band Joy Division.
Tin Drum’s first piece is “The Life,” featuring performance artist Marina Abramovic. They also produced “Medusa,” in collaboration with architect Sou Fujimoto.
In this interview, we discuss Todd’s vision for the future of AR/MR and how Tin Drum is creating a marketplace for performance-based content for AR/MR headset devices. We discuss the evolution of filmed performances and how Tin Drum’s technology brings the viewer closer to the performer—as if the performer were really there. And we discuss the importance of real human connection in a world of digital hyper-connectivity.
